Mosinee match
The Merrill High School Boys Varsity Wrestling Team hosted Mosinee in a wrestling match on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, and celebrated a victory in the Conference matchup.
“Mosinee was very shorthanded, but in the matches we wrestled, we competed well,” said Merrill Boys Varsity Wrestling Head Coach Brian Suchocki. “Koi, Lakeyn, Brett, and Hunter all came out aggressive and got pins for the team. They really set the tone for the dual.”
“Broc won the only decision with a solid performance,” he said. “Will, Ryan, Remington, Trenton, and Noah all received forfeits.”
Individual wrestling results:
“This was our Hall of Fame (HOF) night and Dustin Perry was inducted,” Suchocki said. “It was really a special night to see Merrill’s only three-time State Champion get inducted into the HOF. He really was something to see in his years of wrestling.”
“I was lucky enough to be an assistant when he competed,” he said. “In my opinion, there was no one better on top than him. He kept the pressure on his opponents and had a great intensity. It was exciting to see him get recognized.”
Bluejay Challenge Tournament
Merrill hosted the Bluejay Challenge Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 10, with 26 teams in attendance, representing Abbotsford, Adams/Friendship, Amherst, Antigo, Athens, Bonduel, Boyceville, Chippewa Falls High School, Crandon, Cumberland, Edgar, Elcho, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, Lakeland Union High School, Manawa, Marathon, Menominee Indian, Neillsville, Nekoosa, Rhinelander, St. Croix Central, Stanley-Boyd, Three Lakes, Tri-County, Wausau West, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
The Merrill Varsity Boys took 7th place overall in the 27-team field. “This was an extremely strong field of teams, and we had to battle all day against some great competition,” Suchocki said. “We were led by Remington Skic who won the 150 lb. bracket.”
“Remington had a great day dominating in the finals,” he said. “Remington really set-up his shots and brought it the entire day.”
“Hunter Opper took second place, continuing his strong season,” Suchocki said. “Hunter wasn’t feeling the best but took it as a challenge and was able to overcome some adversity. Hunter continues to compete at a high level and will look to continue that.”

Five dual matches
Merrill started off a string of five dual matches with a Conference victory over Tomahawk at Tomahawk on Thursday, Jan. 15, setting up a new potential rivalry.
“The Tomahawk dual was an important Conference match for us, keeping us at 4-0 in the Conference,” Suchocki said. “It was a great dual, and it was good to get the win.”
“Both teams battled well,” he said. “Our guys came out looking to get after it, and Tomahawk battled well. It was especially special that Remington Skic earned his 100th win with a pin in the second period.”
“Remington really got after it and pushed the pace from the start,” he said. “It’s an awesome accomplishment considering he is only a Junior. This is a great milestone for Remington as he continues to compete at a high level.”
“Dustin, Brett, and Hunter all got important pins followed by technical falls from Broc and Noah,” Suchocki said. “Josh and Lakeyn each added key wins. It’s great to see the team pull together to get the win.”

“Our next match was against Hudson, and it was our most complete dual of the season,” Suchocki said. “We came away with a dominant win over an always-tough Hudson team.”
“The highlight of the dual was Brett Suchocki getting his 100th win for his career with a technical Fall in two minutes,” he said. “It was great to see him accomplish something he has been working for as a Senior. He earned it.”
“His teammates did a great job, too,” Suchocki said. “Earning pins were Broc, Hunter, Preston, Noah, and Trenton. Ryan had a technical fall, Remington a major decision, and Dustin a decision to round out the wins for Merrill.”

“In our last match at St. Croix, we took on Barron, getting a 60-12 win,” Suchocki said. “This was another dual where we had a wrestler get a 100 wins for their career. This was Hunter’s turn, and he did it with a pin.”
“Hunter has been wrestling so well this season, and he continued with three wins and no losses on the day,” he said. “I’m very proud of Hunter, and it’s great to see his success.”
