The Merrill Varsity Boys saw their season come to an end with a loss to Medford in the Sectional Semifinal last Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Baldwin Woodville High School.
“[We] lost 5-3 in eight innings,” said Shawn Schultz, Merrill Boys Varsity Head Baseball Coach. “We got off to an early lead with an RBI single from Cooper Wendorf after Brady Kanitz led off with a double. We got another run in the second when Isaak Clapper walked and Kanitz drove him in with a double to left.”
“Medford got one in the bottom, but we got another run in the fifth when Sam Reimann doubled and EJ Weix drove him in with a single to center,” he said.
“Medford got two back in the bottom to tie it, but starting pitcher Brady Kanitz worked out of it and held them scoreless in the sixth. We had a chance with a runner on in the top of the seventh but it went to extras and they hit a walk-off two run homerun.”
“It was a well-played game just like we had all year,” Schultz said. “Brady and Isaak pitched well and the defense was strong. We just came up short.”
“It was a great season and a group that would battle with anyone.”
Box Score:
