MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

1-13-25

At 8:36 a.m. an officer took a report of a theft of a license plate from a vehicle.

At 4:49 p.m. an officer took a report of possible fraudulent transactions with an individual’s debit card. The investigation is ongoing.

At 10:28 a.m. a convenience store reported finding an envelope with a large amount of money that was unclaimed. Through surveillance the officer was able to track down the owner as being from N. Carolina. Arrangements were made to return the money.

At 12:35 p.m. an officer assisted Park Falls PD in obtaining a DNA sample from a Merrill resident.

At 7:54 p.m. a caller requested assistance in having a female removed from his home. The male was not comfortable in asking his guest to leave. An officer informed the woman of the male’s wishes and she departed without issue.

At 10:28 a.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the stop, K9 Dasty was deployed and had a positive alert on the vehicle. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were located. The driver was arrested for several charges including possession with intent to deliver THC, delivery of THC, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 9:35 p.m. officers responded to a residence after an unknown male had entered the victim’s residence without permission. The male was cited for disorderly conduct.

At 4:27 p.m. K9 Dasty was requested to assist the Sheriff’s Office with a traffic stop. Prior to K9 Dasty being deployed, the occupants admitted to being in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The vehicle occupants were ultimately arrested by the Sheriff’s Office.

At 10:38 a.m. officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the city. Officers determined that one of the drivers failed to yield to another vehicle that had the right of way. The driver who failed to yield was issued a citation.

At 11:03 a.m. officers responded to another two-vehicle crash in the city. Officers determined that one of the drivers failed to yield to another vehicle that had the right of way. The driver who failed to yield was issued a citation.

At 6:40 a.m. an officer took a report of a mailbox that had been struck by a vehicle sometime overnight.

At 2:07 p.m. it was reported an elderly person had wandered off from a nursing home. In the meantime, the elderly person had flagged down a vehicle and ultimately was taken to the police department (PD). The individual was returned to the nursing home by family members contacted by the PD.

At 2:14 p.m. a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

At 11:11 p.m. a caller reported a female had driven into a ditch and struck a power pole. The driver displayed characteristics indicative of intoxication. The female agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests. The female was arrested for operating while intoxicated (3rd offense) and cited for inattentive driving. A crash report was completed.

At 12:27 p.m. a caller reported a male at a residence that had a warrant for his arrest. It was confirmed the man had a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Contact was made with the man and he was arrested for that warrant.

At 3:00 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle make an illegal left turn. The driver was found to have a warrant for his arrest through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The man was arrested for that warrant, cited for operating with suspended driver’s license, and warned for the illegal left turn.

At 3:43 p.m. a caller reported a male had kicked a door in at an apartment. The man left prior to police arrival. Investigation is ongoing.

At 1:12 p.m. an officer had positively identified a male as a suspect in a retail theft from earlier in the month. Contact was made with the man and he was arrested for retail theft.

At 6:10 p.m. an anonymous caller reported a female drinking at a tavern in violation of an open bond. The bond condition was confirmed and the female was located inside the tavern. The female was arrested for felony bail jumping. A baggie containing a white powder was found in her pocket. This tested positive for cocaine. The woman was additionally charged with possession of cocaine and a probation violation.
