MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS

1-17-2022

At 9:59 a.m. an employee at a local store reported someone had stolen his jacket. The officer reviewed surveillance video which showed a male enter the store, remove his own jacket, and then put on the employee’s jacket. The employee’s jacket also contained the keys to his vehicle. The officer recognized the man and located him shortly thereafter in the area wearing the employee’s jacket. The man became resistive with the officer when he attempted to take him into custody. The man was arrested for theft, resisting an officer, and two counts of bail jumping.

At 4:55 p.m. a caller reported his ex-wife had violated an injunction by contacting him. It was found the injunction violation was unfounded as she was the petitioner in that injunction, however, it was found she has an open bond prohibiting contact with him. A charge for bail jumping was completed against the female.

At 3:48 p.m. a store reported a male stole some merchandise from the store. A registration plate was provided. The suspect is known and investigation continues.

At 6:41 p.m. a store reported a female had stolen a cake the week prior. The female is known and investigation continues.

At 10:40 p.m. a caller reported his son had been at a store and when he left he noted someone had damaged the side mirror to the vehicle. Investigation continues.

At 5:59 p.m. officers were called to a harassment issue between two neighbors. After investigating the issue, it was determined the matter was simply a misunderstanding between the pair.

At 9:20 p.m. officers were called to a structure fire at a laundromat on W. Main St. Upon arrival, officers learned from customers that what the caller believed to be smoke was the venting heat from the dryers outside the building.

At 5:12 a.m. officers were called to an intoxicated party who was armed with a knife and trying to hurt themself. Officers confronted the party and were able to deescalate the situation. The party was taken into protective custody.

1-21-2022

At 6:57 p.m. a caller reported his adult grandson, who resides with him, had become upset and had broken a door and a glass. The grandson left the residence, pushing his grandfather as he did so. Officers could not locate the grandson. The grandson will be charged with domestic disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

1-22-2022

At 3:39 p.m. an officer witnessed a crash that occurred on E. Main St. at Center Ave. The offending driver was cited for failure to yield right of way from stop sign, and a crash report will be completed.

1-23-2022

At 7:58 p.m. a caller reported a male she didn’t know was in her yard and was refusing to leave. The man also reportedly had been knocking and ringing her doorbell after being asked to leave. A neighbor further saw the man peering through the windows. The man was located and arrested for disorderly conduct and three counts of bail jumping.
