The Merrill Bluejay Trap Team opened the 2026 season with a sweep on Tuesday, March 24, topping the Tomahawk Claybusters in all four competing divisions. The Merrill Bluejays shot from the team’s home base, the Lincoln Gun Club on Corning Road just west of Merrill.
Competing in Intermediate Entry, Intermediate Advanced, Junior Varsity, and Varsity divisions, the Bluejays won each one to kick off their season in fine form. The Varsity shooters led the way with a 120-112 win. The Junior Varsity squad claimed a 115-95 victory, and the Intermediate Entry team won 82-61. Most notably, the Intermediate Advanced squad’s 103-102 finish over Tomahawk was a perfect example of what the coaching staff preaches: “Every bird counts.” Their margin of victory was a single bird.
Team scores are calculated using the top five scores in each division.
Individually, Senior and Varsity Trap Team member Mason Meyer shot a perfect 25 to start the season strong.
The Bluejays faced Lakeland last week in Week 2 of shooting, with scores not yet available. This week, Merrill takes on Mosinee in what is typically a tight competition.
