Merrill Alumni Friends & Family 5K Run/Walk is this Saturday

Alumni, families, and community members will lace up their running shoes this weekend for the second annual Merrill Alumni Friends & Family 5K Run/Walk, and all are invited to join them.
The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at the Merrill School Forest, hosted by the Merrill High School (MHS) Varsity Cross Country (CC) Team as a fundraiser for the Merrill Cross Country Program.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a fee required for participants. The 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. New this year is a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run for ages 5-13, which will follow the 5K race.
Awards will be given for first through third place in several categories, including men’s 5K, women’s 5K, and three youth age divisions: 5-7, 8-10, and 11-13. Post-race snacks will be provided for participants.
MHS Varsity Cross Country Coach EmmaLee Smith said last year’s inaugural event drew a strong turnout, and organizers are hoping for even more alumni runners and their families this time around.

“It’s a chance to reconnect with family, former CC teammates, and athletes, as well as former coaches as we run or walk together,” Smith said.
Smith said the race is designed to welcome all skill levels.
“These races are open to any community member — suitable for the competitive runner, casual jogger, or just someone who wants to take a walk with friends,” she said.
