BOOM! That’s just one of the many sounds that will come from Normal Park this Wednesday, June 19, 2024. The Merrill City Band will present “Shiver Me Timbers – Music and Mayhem.” Director Cap’n Darby Deadbones invites you to listen to the sounds of the band, along with the sounds of the pirate cannon, vocal soloist “Rusty Pipes Buchegerrrr,” trumpet soloist “Booty Toots,” and narrator “Dastardly Bootz.”
A live cannon will be on site, and there will be some loud booms from 4-7 p.m. and one more around 8 p.m., along with activities for kids, including a giant inflatable pirate ship and an obstacle course, face painting, digging for buried treasure, coloring contest, corn hole, ring toss, and more from 4-7. Concessions from the Lions Club and Cub Scouts Pack 503, along with performing artists “Winchester,” will begin at 5 p.m. The City Band concert will get under way at 7 p.m. Join the band in dressing up like a pirate and be eligible to win a prize. The little pirate costume and coloring contest winners will be announced during the first portion of the concert, followed by the little pirate parade through the audience.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and come out to enjoy some pirate fun in Normal Park. Cap’n Darby says, “Ahoy Mateys! Don’t worry…it’s not gonna rain.” (In the event the good ol’ Cap’n is wrong about the weather, the pirate concert will take place the following Wednesday on June 26.)
