The Town of Corning Fire Department responded to a mutual aid call Monday in the Town of Berlin. The Town of Maine Fire Department requested assistance with a machine shed fire they were fighting on County Rd F near County Rd O. Town of Corning Firefighters responded with tankers and manpower and were on the scene for an hour.

The Town of Russell Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported at a residence in the 6000 block of Town Hall Rd just after 2 p.m. According to firefighters and the deputy's report the fire was contained to the chimney and there was no apparent damage.

Only minor problems were reported after a snowstorm moved through Lincoln County Wednesday night into Thursday. Five vehicles slid off the road and three property damage crashes were investigated. On Thursday a deputy investigated a crash involving a Lincoln County Highway Department plow truck. The plow driver was working on State Rd 17 near Bradley Street in Gleason when a 47 year old Rhinelander man who was following behind him rear-ended him. The Rhinelander man admitted he fell asleep while driving and was cited for inattentive driving. His vehicle had to be towed from the scene while there was only minor damage to the plow.

A 29 year old Merrill man was taken into custody after a traffic stop early Saturday morning in the City of Merrill. A deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Axel J. Stewart-Hanson on East Main Street near Big Eddy Rd for speeding at 2:10 a.m. Stewart-Hanson was placed through field sobriety tests and as a result was taken into custody on a first offense charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He will be summonsed into court on a misdemeanor charge of bail jumping for violating the terms of a bond in a pending criminal case in Lincoln County. Under terms of his open case Stewart-Hanson was forbidden from drinking alcohol by the court.

A 23 year old Tomahawk man was taken into custody late Saturday night on a traffic charge. A deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Brockton J. Lombardo on 4th Street at Spirit Ave in the City of Tomahawk after he saw it cross the center line and noted the plates were expired. Lombardo had an odor of intoxicants coming from him and he was placed through field sobriety tests. As a result of those tests he was taken into custody on a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was later released to a responsible party.

A 33 year old Merrill man was arrested early Saturday morning on a charge of resisting arrest after a deputy responded to a Town of Corning home to investigate a disturbance. The deputy was trying to contact Nicholas D. Young to investigate the events which led to the 911 call but he resisted the efforts and refused to show his hands which were concealed by a blanket. When Young was being taken out of the home he physically resisted efforts and later started kicking on the door of the residence. A Merrill Police officer responded to the scene and assisted in taking Young into custody. He was booked on the misdemeanor count into the Lincoln County Jail but was released late Sunday afternoon after posting bond. The deputy's report indicates alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.

The Town of Pine River Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to a report of a chimney fire. A 911 call reported the fire in the 2000 block of Pat Smith Lane at 6:19 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour, they told the deputy who responded that the fire was contained to the chimney and there was no damage to the home.

The number of deer crashes is back up with 12 being reported this past week. A Wausau man also struck what he thought was a coyote Saturday afternoon in the Town of Merrill. The driver was on State Rd 17 north of County Rd G when the animal ran into the side of his vehicle and took off. The vehicle sustained damage but the investigating deputy was not able to find the coyote.
