As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, Nov. 5:
On 10-28-24 deputies were dispatched to the area of STH 64 and CTH W for a two-vehicle crash with unknown injures. Upon arrival, the first deputy made contact with the drivers to inquire about the crash. It was reported that one vehicle was slowing in traffic when they were struck from behind by the second vehicle. Apparently, the driver of the second vehicle was possibly suffering some form of a medical emergency when he struck the first vehicle. In speaking with the second driver, he advised that he didn’t remember anything about the crash. Both drivers only suffered minor injuries; however, the second driver was transported to Aspirus Merrill Hospital for his medical issue. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by officers of the Merrill PD.
On 10/31/2024 deputies were dispatched to the Lincoln County Jail for two inmates that were involved in a fight. The fight was between a Wausau man, 40, and a Wausau man, 20. According to the investigation, the two inmates were having a discussion that eventually turned into a physical fight. During the course of the fight several punches were thrown, and the fight continued until broken up by corrections officers. The investigating deputy was able to speak with the victim of the fight, while the suspect/primary aggressor elected not to speak with the deputy. The suspect, being the 20 year old, will have charges for four counts of felony bail jumping, battery, disorderly conduct and strangulation filed against him.
On 11/01/2024 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle at CTH J and CTH H in the Town of Birch for an equipment violation, where the vehicle had a defective headlight. The deputy made contact with the driver, a Gleason man, 20. When stopped, the driver advised the deputy that a Tomahawk police officer had stopped him for the same violation earlier in the night. At the time of the stop with Tomahawk, the officer had warned the driver that his driver’s license was suspended and that he was not permitted to drive. As the deputy spoke with the driver, she could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. The deputy asked the driver about smoking marijuana, and the driver advised that he had smoked approximately three hours prior to the stop. The driver was asked to perform sobriety tests, which he agreed to do, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a first offense of OWI. The driver was transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was also booked for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Deputies conducted 19 traffic stops and 34 security checks.
Deputies responded to 14 car vs. deer crashes and one car vs. bear.
Driving complaints: Nine.
The 911 Center took four hang-up calls and four nuisance calls.
