Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports: June 22-July 5, 2026

On June 24, 2026, deputies were called to a residence on Snow Flake Ln. in the town of Merrill for a report of a disturbance. A woman told deputies she had gone to the address to serve civil process papers on the property owner, Derrick Simon. Simon told her he was not accepting the papers and ordered her to leave. The woman said that as she was leaving, Simon went into his house, returned outside and fired a shot from a gun. She also reported seeing Simon in possession of a firearm. When deputies contacted Simon, he confirmed he had spoken with the woman and had fired a gun, but said he had been target shooting in his backyard. Simon will be issued a citation for disorderly conduct.

On June 27, 2026, deputies responded to the area of STH 17 and CTH X in the town of Russell for a motorcycle-versus-deer crash with injuries. Deputies learned the motorcycle was traveling northbound on STH 17 when it struck a deer that ran into the road. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Gleason, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered a serious head injury. He was transported by ground ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

On June 30, 2026, deputies were called to Rock Island resort on STH 107 in the town of Merrill for a disturbance in progress. It was reported that a man was shooting a nail gun at people and vehicles. When the first deputy arrived, he found the suspect, Daniel Zulliger of Merrill, sitting in his truck. The deputy repeatedly asked Zulliger to step out of the vehicle, but he refused; the deputy then removed him from the truck and attempted to handcuff him, and Zulliger resisted. Witnesses said Zulliger had been on a boat with a group of people when he became disorderly and pushed someone overboard. After being dropped off at Rock Island, he continued his behavior, shooting nails at people and vehicles. Zulliger was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of battery, disorderly conduct, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

On July 2, 2026, deputies were sent to the area of STH 17 and CTH G in the town of Schley for a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Deputies determined one vehicle had slowed or stopped in traffic when a second vehicle attempted to pass just as the first vehicle began to turn, and the two collided. One driver suffered a minor laceration to his arm. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by their owners.

A deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle on USH 8 near CTH U in the town of Bradley for speeding and lane deviation. The deputy made contact with the driver, Dylan Koth of Madison, and noticed signs of impairment. Koth agreed to perform field sobriety tests and, as a result, was arrested on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated. He was later released to a responsible party.

Also on this date, deputies were sent to a residence on Parrish Rd. in the town of Harrison for a disturbance in progress. Deputies were told a woman at the address had struck a man twice. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the victim, who was uncooperative. The suspect, Johanna Gregory of Wausau, ran into nearby woods but was located and escorted back to the residence, where she remained resistive and uncooperative. Gregory was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and was transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

During this two-week period, deputies conducted approximately 84 traffic stops and 43 security checks. They also responded to 20 car-versus-deer crashes and one car-versus-chicken crash.
