LINCOLN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORT

A large straight truck traveling on US Hwy. 51 near County RD Q went too far over onto an ice covered shoulder causing his truck to leave the roadway and roll onto its side Monday morning, Feb. 8. The road was restricted for over three hours while the truck was uprighted and removed.The driver, a 49-year-old Wausau man reported minor injuries. While deputies were investigating that crash, a second crash occurred in front of them. That rear end collision was blamed on speed and also resulted in minor injuries.

A 30-year-old Merrill man was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge Monday after deputies investigated a disturbance in the Town of Pine River.

A 26-year-old Merrill man was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated Tuesday night after a deputy came across his vehicle in the ditch on County Rd. E near Burma Rd in the Town of Harding.

One person was injured following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in the Town of Russell. A pickup truck being operated by a 60-year-old Gleason man was traveling west on County Rd. J when it slowed to turn onto Schielke Rd and was struck from behind by a westbound beer delivery truck. The driver of the pickup was transported to Aspirus after the crash for non-life threatening injuries. His passenger and the delivery truck driver denied injury. The Town of Russell Fire Department and First Responders also responded; they assisted in closing the road for the two and a half hours it took to remove the trucks.

A 28-year-old Merrill man was arrested Saturday morning on a warrant charge. A deputy stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle in the Town of Merrill and found the operator to be wanted for violating the terms of his probation.

Ice-covered roads caused problems throughout the week and kept deputies and the dispatch center busy. The dispatch center received a total of 38 calls involving crashes or vehicles sliding off the road. None of those crashes involved animals.
