Lightning splinters Merrill area tree

Sunday evening's lightning storm hit a tree west of Merrill on Snow Hill Rd., splintering it like kindling. The property owners heard the lightning strike and feared it had hit their garage or one of their outbuildings. They went outside to check and didn't notice any damage. The next day they discovered the nearby tree had been struck. The tree had been a perfectly healthy white ash. Marge Daul photo.
