King documentary to be shown at library

Posted

In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, the Merrill Peace Study group invites you to view KING: A FILMED RECORD; MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS. This tribute to the late Dr. King was originally screened for one night only in 1970 in more than 600 theaters across the United States. While both a huge artistic and financial success, it has essentially been out of public circulation since then. This commemorative DVD has been made so that this epic film may be seen by a public that has never had the opportunity to do so; and to acquaint a new audience both in the United States and throughout the world with an unforgettable chapter of history.

There will be two showings of the entire 3-hour documentary on Monday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and repeated from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Merrill T. B. Scott Library Community Room. The public is invited to view the documentary in its entirety or to come for a segment as able. Related books and materials will be on display. Members of the Merrill Peace Study group will be present during the program. An open discussion will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Richard Kaplan Productions and A Filmed Record, Inc. has granted permission for this public showing. For more information, call 715-536-5889 or 715-536-9430.
