Swimmer's itch is widespread in Wisconsin, including Lincoln County. There seems to be no special reason why lakes have the problem; the beach area can be sandy, rocky or weedy. People get swimmer's itch usually in late June or early July in northern Wisconsin. However, it can continue into August.
Swimmer's itch looks like red, bite-like welts and can appear within several hours of leaving the water. The rash itches and can last from two days to several weeks,
