The Tomahawk varsity volleyball team controlled the first two close games in Tuesday's match at Lakeland, then put the T-Birds down with a 25-13 closer.
The Hatchet girls improved to 9-0 in the GNC and 23-9 overall, while knocking Lakeland to 4-3 in conference and 13-11 overall.
"Even though this wasn't our best showing defensively, we did average over 10 kills a game," THS coach Jen Pfannerstill said. "When some players were struggling, others stepped up, and we were able to pull out the win in three (games).
"We easily could have dropped the second game-we just weren't picking up the off-speed shots and were out of position defensively-as we were down 22-19 and were able to put a few points together. That was a good mental test to be able to come back that late in the game."
The Hatchets had pulled out a 25-21 opener, then edged the T-Birds 26-24 in the second game before completing the sweep.
"We did a good job of siding out against Lakeland, but unfortunately we couldn't hold our serve against them either," Pfannerstill said. "We struggled with blocking and didn't consistently take away the area of the court we wanted to. We did find serving success in the third game which was exactly what we needed."
THS offerings were turned in by: Kellan Flynn (17 k, 3 bl); Anna Sudbury (5 kills, 30 assists, 9 digs, 2 blocks); Anna Nyberg (8 k, 15 d, 3 bl); Kayli Ogstad (5 k, 4 bl); Alex DuPlayee (4 k, 8 d); Amanda Schneider (3 k, 3 d); and Kelsey Paramore (4 d).
