GNC opponents hardly stood a chance against a red-hot Hatchet volleyball squad last week.
Tomahawk wiped out four foes in 3-0 fashion, including Medford on Thursday, and Rhinelander, Northland Pines and Lakeland in Saturday's GNC #1 at Mosinee on Saturday.
Medford was the only one to reach 20 points in a game while dropping a 26-24 opener. Tomahawk followed it up with 25-11 and 25-13 games to lock it down.
"We were just tentative and so worried about making the littlest mistake that we forgot to just play volleyball," THs coach Jen Pfannerstill said. "In games 2 and 3 we were just so much more comfortable with ourselves, our passing improved, and we were able to run an offense.
"Once we started clicking, it was fun to watch. This team has so many weapons and can rely on so many people that it becomes hard to focus on just taking one out. That's a huge advantage for us."
Producing for THS were: Kaitlin Doughty (7 k, 4 d, 9 ac), Kellan Flynn (8 k, 5 bl, 3 d, 4 ac), Sydney Lakatos (6 k, 8 d), Anna Sudbury (7 k, 16 as), Kaylyn Olson (4 d, 21 as), Jenna Otterholt (10 d), Kayli Ogstad (8 k).
GNC blowdown
The Hatchets took care of the Hodags (25-19, 25-14, 25-13), Pines (25-6, 25-16, 25-18) and the T-Birds (25-7, 25-10, 25-13) in short order.
"It was great for us to get three conference wins and put us in good position for the second half of the season," Pfannerstill said. "Everyone gained some experience and saw a good deal of court time, and we were still able to stay aggressive and keep the scores down.
"We served extremely tough with 59 aces in 9 games, and distributed the ball well at the net to our hitters."
Powering the attack were: Doughty (19 k, 13 ac, 10 d), Flynn (12 ac, 14 k, 4 bl, 4 d), Otterholt (4 ac, 23 d), Lakatos 13 k, 11 ac, 18 d), Sudbury (3 ac, 15 k, 6 bl, 39 as, 5 d), Olson (7 ac, 7 k, 37 as, 6 d), Ogstad (3 ac, 11 k, 2 bl), Kelsey Paramore (6 ac, 10 k, 4 d), Hannah Bailey (5 k).
