Guided tour offers rare look at historic Fromm Farm in Hamburg

Posted

A local landmark with ties to both ginseng and fur farming will open its gates this Saturday when the Marathon County Historical Society and the Fromm Bros. Historical Preservation Society co-host a guided excursion to the historic Fromm Farm in Hamburg.
The “Fromm Farm: A Living Legacy Tour” is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, with two departure times available — 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. — from the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St. in Wausau. Boarding begins 15 minutes before each departure.
Attendees will travel by bus to the Hamburg property, where a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the farm awaits. After the tour, guests will have time to explore outdoor exhibits and enjoy light refreshments from local businesses before returning to Wausau.
The Fromm Farm has a notable place in both regional and national agricultural history. The property began as a ginseng operation before expanding into silver fox and mink farming, eventually growing into one of the largest such operations in the country. The Fromm Farm was a large local employer in the Hamburg area for many years, and its owners were largely responsible for establishing what is now Maple Grove Charter School in Hamburg, as well. Tours of the Fromm Farm are limited and rare, but provide a unique opportunity to explore local history and legacy firsthand when they are offered.
Tour space is limited, and advance reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased by calling 715.842.5750, online through TicketSource, or in person at the Woodson History Center, with a small discount for Marathon County Historical Society members. Proceeds will benefit both the historical society and the Fromm Bros. Historical Preservation Society.
