Governor Scott Walker announced approval Friday of a $1,387,542 project for the second phase of taxiway construction at the Merrill Municipal Airport in Lincoln County.
Eric Johnson, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), said the project will continue work started last year on the parallel taxiway to the airport's primary runway. The second phase includes the paving, lighting and utility work of the project.
Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by June 2013.
The project is mainly funded through the Federal Aviation Administration, which will pay $1,269,469. The city of Merrill and state of Wisconsin are kicking in just over $59,000 each.
The Merrill Municipal Airport has two paved runways. The primary runway is 5,100 feet, while the secondary runway is 3,000 feet.
