Fair offers rides, shows and plenty of youth talent

The Lincoln County 4-H Fair, which gets underway Wednesday and runs through Sunday, offers a mid-summer celebration that not only brings carnival rides, midway games, grandstand shows and all the tempting treats that go along with the festive atmosphere, it also gives area 4-H members a chance to show off the fruits of their efforts in exhibits in many different areas. From animal husbandry, to arts and crafts to homemaking skills, exhibits are what the fair is really all about.

Just as the 4-H members have been working all year on their exhibits, so too has the Fair Board of Directors, according to Dale Christiansen, director of the board.

"We started at the end of last year's fair negotiating with the major acts such as the bull riding and demolition derby," Christiansen said. "We are year-round volunteers, we don't get paid."

Working on putting the fair together is a monumental labor of love for the Fair Board, he said. In putting it all together, he said that the goal is to have as wide a variety of attractions as possible yet still keep the event affordable.

This starts with the rides, which are again provided by Rainbow Valley Amusement. Three days have been set aside for the popular all you can ride wristbands for $18. On Wednesday purchasers of the wristbands can have unlimited rides on everything but the bumper cars from 5-10 p.m. On Sunday the bands are good from noon until 5 p.m. Friday is Merchant's Day, where unlimited ride wristbands are $17 from noon to 5 p.m. with a $1 discount coupon available from area merchants.

Thursday is Dollar Day when all ride tickets are $1
