Erland (Erl) Clifford Carlson

Erland (Erl) Clifford Carlson, 69, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Erl was born March 19th,1955, in Marshfield, son of Clifford Carlson and Lois (Franke) Carlson-Schindler. He married Jeanine (Beaudette) Carlson on July 21, 1981, in Merrill.

Erl is survived by his wife, Jeanine Carlson of Merrill; son, Garret (Jillian) Carlson of Lisbon, Iowa; daughter Nicole (Adam) Pagenkopf of Glencoe, Minnesota; grandchildren, Lily and Lucas Carlson, Murielle and Adler Pagenkopf; and sister, Karen Carlson of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Erl was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Carlson and Lois Carlson-Schindler; step-father, James Schindler; brother, Alan Carlson; and his grandparents.

Erl attended Colby High School, graduating in 1973. He then attended Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, Wisconsin. He spent his working life as a meat manager for grocery stores, particularly in the Merrill and Wausau area until his retirement.

Erl loved his family dearly and always enjoyed spending time with them. Erl had an interest in wood working and built all of the interior of their log home and completed many projects on their hobby farm. He enjoyed feeding and watching his song birds. Erl was an avid Packer, Brewer, and Badger fan. He delighted in the couple of times he got to Lambeau field for a game. As a member of the Lincoln Gun Club he won many awards, and shooting trap was another hobby of his. Most of all, he loved grilling and sitting out on the patio.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Wausau Hospital, including the Cardiac ICU team, for Erl's care during his stay there.

As a loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Erl will be missed by many, including his faithful dog Una.

A memorial service for Erl will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Rev. Michael Southcombe will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home.
