Driver dies after fleeing State Patrol traffic stop on Hwy. 51

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reports it is investigating an incident that occurred Friday, April 24, 2026, just before 5 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 51 north of Cty. Rd. A, following a traffic stop initiated by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
According to a release from the sheriff’s office, preliminary information indicates a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area. The sole occupant fled the stop, and the driver appears to have sustained a self-inflicted fatal injury during the incident.
The identity of that driver has not yet been released.
Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, along with members of the Tomahawk Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office said no further information is being released at this time.
