Donate deer hides for Lions Camp, antlers for pups, hearts for refuge

Posted

The MerrillMerrill Lions Club is again collecting deer hides, antlers, and hearts.

Deer hides

Deer hunters who wish to put their deer hides to good use and support a worthy cause should remove the head and legs and can deposit their deer hides in the Deer Hide Collection box on the corner at 1401 E. Main St. in Merrill (former Caylor’s Corners building) or the Deer Hide Collection box at SGS S. State Street (old Chipper building). Look for the sign and the box in the parking lot or at the end of the drive, respectively.
All proceeds from the deer hides will be used to support Wisconsin Lions Camp.
Since 1956, Wisconsin Lions Camp has been providing people with disabilities with a high quality summer camp program, and the proceeds of the deer hide collection program are an important part of keeping the camps operational. There is no cost for campers to participate.

Deer antlers

The Merrill Lions Club is also collecting deer antlers. Antlers will be donated to Leader Dog puppy raisers for the puppies to chew on.

Deer hearts

Deer hearts are also being collected and will be donated to the Wildlife Refuge in Antigo.
Thanks to local businesses for their support

The Merrill Lions want to thank theh local businesses and individuals that made it possible for the collection. Mike Giese and RESI and Jay Schlueter at SGS provide the spaces and locations for the collection on their property this year, and River Country Co-op is donating a portion of the salt used to preserve the hides.
For more information about the collection or if there are any questions, contact Dennis Knott at 715.218.1525 or Jeff Kraft at 715.536.6656. Both are members of the Merrill Lions Club.
