DID YOU KNOW? Don’t crush those cans

Posted

According to Wisconsin Recycles, a nonprofit program of the Associated Recyclers of Wisconsin, that aims to bring together communities across Wisconsin to prevent valuable recyclables from going to waste in our landfills, you shouldn’t crush your aluminum cans.
It might seem like flattening aluminum cans would save space, but it actually makes recycling them harder. Modern recycling facilities use equipment that sorts materials by their size, shape, and weight. When cans are flattened, they can be mistaken for paper or cardboard and end up in the wrong recycling stream. Recycle aluminum cans properly by emptying them, giving them a quick rinse, leaving them uncrushed, and tossing them loose into your recycling bin.
