Merrill, Wis.—Lincoln County Emergency Management in coordination with Lincoln County Sheriff Office will conduct an active threat training exercise at Lincoln County Court House from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Nov. 7, 2025. This initiative supports a whole-community approach to public safety by equipping county personnel with the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively during a potential active threat emergency.
The training will feature realistic scenarios, including the use of blank ammunition to simulate an active threat environment. These simulations are carefully designed to reinforce communication, coordination, and rapid response under pressure. Residents and businesses in the area may hear loud noises or see an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel. There is no threat to the public and the training is a pre-scheduled, controlled exercise. Law enforcement will maintain a secure perimeter and ensure safety throughout the event.
To ensure a safe and uninterrupted training environment, the Lincoln County Court House will be closed to the public from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Members of the public who have business with any of these departments are encouraged to plan accordingly and adjust their visit schedules to avoid these closure periods.
This critical and invaluable training underscores Lincoln County’s investment in community-wide resilience, interagency collaboration, and proactive readiness efforts.
