County Board approves 2012 budget, sets tax levy

Posted
The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors adopted the budget for 2012 county operations at a meeting last Tuesday morning.

The new budget has less total expenditures, $47.43 million, than the $54.8 million it budgeted the previous year. The county will get part of the money through a tax levy of $13.4 million, up from the $13.34 million for 2011.

The supervisors just missed a self-imposed goal of a zero dollar operating tax increase they had set back at the start of the budget process in March. The Finance Committee and then the full board approved raising the levy to keep pace with net new construction in September.

The county budget process was further complicated by a 25 percent reduction in state shared revenue in the biannual budget. This amounted to $958,000 for the county in 2012, down from $1.27 million.

The final levy figures approved for operating tax rate for cities was $5.42 per $1,000 of assessed value. Township residents will be taxed at $5.68 per $1,000 of assessed value.
