Correction and update to election results

Posted

In last week’s election results coverage, it was reported that in the election for Town Supervisor in the Town of Merrill, Scott Oberg narrowly defeated Timothy Mueske 494 to 488. This was an error. Both candidates, Oberg and Mueske, were incumbents and ran unopposed. However, for that race, voters needed to vote for two candidates, so both Oberg and Mueske were reelected to another term as Town Supervisors.

MAPS Board of Education race and write-ins
In the race for the Merrill Area Public Schools (MAPS) Board of Education (BOE), two incumbent candidates were on the ballot. Kevin Blake and Norbert “Nubs” Ashbeck, both incumbent candidates, ran unopposed and were reelected. However, with just two candidates on the ballot and three open seats on the BOE, it fell to write-in votes to elect the third member of the Board.
According to a statement from the Board of Canvassers, Lin Kautza received the most write-in votes, with 25 votes, and was elected to fill that third seat. Ron Liberty received 22 write-in votes, Brady Loos received 6 write-in votes, and another 132 votes were cast for other write-in candidates, with each of those candidates receiving five or fewer votes.
Kautza, Blake, and Ashbeck, have until April 27, 2026, to take their official oath of office to be seated on the BOE for the next term. If any of the top three fail to take their oath by April 28, the BOE will begin the process of filling a vacancy.
