Merrill Fire Department's Rescue 1, Medic 1 and Medic 3 were dispatched early Wednesday morning for a passenger vehicle crash into a pulp truck at the intersection of Hwy 51 and county C, in the town of Merrill with reported injuries at 5:49 a.m.
Upon arrival crews found a compact car in the median with one patient inside the vehicle. The patient was extricated by Merrill rescue workers and paramedics through the passenger door, due to significant damage to the front and drivers side of the vehicle. The pulp truck was positioned in the turn lane and sustained only minor damage with the driver not injured and refusing medical transport.
According to a Lincoln County Sheriff's Department report, the logging truck driven by Ronald Freeman was traveling northbound and was going to turn left on North Star Drive. The car driven by David Theilman struck the rear tires of the logging trailer. Theilman was transported to Good Samaritan Health Center and then flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
