Callahan receives 2025 Legislative Excellence Award from insurance agents group

Posted

Rep. Calvin Callahan, R-Tomahawk, has been named the Assembly recipient of the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) of Wisconsin’s 2025 Legislative Excellence Award.
The award recognizes Callahan’s role as Assembly author of Senate Bill 531, which addresses post-loss Assignment of Benefits contracts in Wisconsin. The legislation sets boundaries around those agreements, aimed at protecting consumers from misleading practices while preserving the integrity of insurance contracts. It passed both chambers on a bipartisan basis and was signed into law by Gov. Tony Evers as Wisconsin Act 230.
Callahan also serves as Vice-chair of the Assembly Committee on Insurance.
“Representative Callahan showed real leadership in taking on a complex issue and working toward a solution that benefits both consumers and the insurance marketplace,” said Pete Hanson, Executive Director of PIA of Wisconsin. “Our agents are thankful for his efforts to protect their clients and the integrity of insurance contracts in Wisconsin.”
PIA Legislative Committee members Ken Werner Jr. and Christian Montezon presented the award at the State Capitol on April 8, 2026, along with Hanson and PIA Communications Director Natalie White.
The Legislative Excellence Award is given annually to one senator and one Assembly member who demonstrate support for PIA priority legislation and independent insurance agents.
