Samoset Council kicked off its annual Scouting for Food service project to help local families and children facing food insecurity when they canvassed neighborhoods last Saturday, leaving orange fliers on doors of homes with instructions on how to participate in their food collection.
This Saturday, April 1, 2023, the Scouts will return to homes and hopefully find a grocery bag filled with non-perishable food donations. The Scouts will take all of those donations to their local food pantries.
Samoset Council partners with 50+ food pantries in 13 counties. Last year, Scouts collected more than 42,000 pounds of food. Not only does this project help to fill a need in local communities, but it also teaches young boys and girls the importance of giving back to their community.
Scouts will be with adult leaders when picking up the donations, but please keep an eye out as you are driving, especially with the large snow piles remaining in our area.
