Bluejays wrap up their clay-busting season

Posted

It’s typical that Trap Team scores aren’t all available immediately since each school shoots on their own home shooting range and then inputs their scores, but the results of the 2025 season are now all in.
During week six of shooting, the Merrill Bluejays Varsity Trap Team shot against the Medford Area Trap Club and scored a big win 120-110. The Bluejays swept the board, winning at all levels of shooting that week.
For week seven, the Merrill Bluejays were up against the Northland Pines Eagles, and it was a close one, but the Merrill Varsity Trap Team again pulled out the win, this time 116-115. And just like the week prior, the Bluejays took the win across the board at all levels.
Week eight brought a tough loss for the Varsity Bluejays, when they fell to the SPASH Shooting Club by a single point, losing 117-118, while the JV, Intermediate Entry, and Intermediate Advanced teams all scored a win.
In the final week of season shooting, the Merrill Varsity Team made a nice comeback, winning 114-112 against the Antigo Red Robins. JV and Intermediate Advanced also pulled out wins, while the Intermediate Entry Team fell short.

The Merrill Bluejays then hosted this year’s Great Northern Trap Conference Shootout at the end of May at their home range, the Lincoln Gun Club on Corning Rd. west of Merrill. Lily Kufahl was the top Merrill shooter at that event. “What a great weekend for busting clay. Great turnout,” Merrill coaches said of the event.
After all the scores were tallied at the end of the season, Merrill’s Christopher Holz and Mason Meyer were the top Varsity shooters overall for the Merrill Bluejays, with both being named All Conference Honorable Mention.
At the lower levels, Merrill had some really strong season finishers: Maria Ashbrenner took second place for female shooters within the Great Northern Trap Conference at the JV level, and Malayna Kufahl took second place for female shooters within the Conference at the Intermediate Entry level.
