Beverly J. Hinz, age 78, of Merrill, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at her son's home in Minocqua, under the care of her family and hospice services.
Bev was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Menomonee, MI, daughter of the late James Edward and Francis Ruth (Danner) Pfotenhauer. She married Jack Hinz in 1954, and he preceded her in death in 1994.
Bev was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill, and graduated from Merrill Senior High School in 1952. As a young girl she played baseball for R.O.W. - Merrill, and played alto saxophone in the high school marching band. As an adult, Bev worked as a waitress at the former Hinz's Cork & Dyne, Merrill, the Watergate Restaurant, Tomahawk, and Skipper's Restaurant, Merrill. Bev enjoyed living for many years on Tug Lake in the Town of Rock Falls, and for many years was the treasurer for the Town of Rock Falls. Bev was also the bookkeeper for Duane Bushar Bus Service. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. Bev was an avid bowler. She enjoyed teaching bowling to children and participated in the "Kids Bowling Program" at Lincoln Lanes in Merrill. She was also a member of the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her daughter, Holly Anne (Brad) Zastrow, Johnsburg, IL; two sons, Darryl Hinz, Merrill, and Jay (Linda) Hinz, Minocqua; four grandchildren, Brandon Hinz and Nathan (Heather) Hinz, both of Merrill, Nicole (Jeff) Gunther, Tomahawk, and Heidi (Terry) Flanagan, Burnsville, MN; four great grandchildren, Mykenzie, Lexi, Austin, and Abby; three sisters, Mary (Ted) Gilbert, Arkansas, Carol (Dr. Joe) Anderson, Madison, and Ruth Pfotenhauer, Illinois; and one brother, Tom (Patti) Pfotenhauer, Ohio. Bev is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents James and Ruth Pfotenhauer, and her brother, Dennis Pfotenhauer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
