Arts Weekend in Merrill

Posted
Next month patrons of the arts in the Merrill community will have the opportunity to spend an afternoon enjoying the works of local artists at two venues. On Saturday, Feb. 5, both the Merrill High School Mural Art Show and the Merrill Artisans Showcase at Bell Tower Residence, are planned for the afternoon. The High School Art Show will run from 1-4 p.m. and the Artisan Showcase hours are 3-6 p.m.

The sixth annual High School Mural Open House will feature an 8'x10' collaborative work by two art students. This is a reproduction of Lewis Lavoie's "Adam - One Blood, Many Nations," a United Nations mural mosaic completed in 2007. Also highlighted will be 10 new 4'x6' wall murals which are reproductions of well known artists. A total of 70 murals can now be found throughout the school.

In addition, Honor Art students will display artwork in the commons and other student works will be found throughout the building. Another bonus is the Alumni Show set up across from the commons.

Refreshments will be available in the commons with music provided by Paul and Susanna Gilk. Admission to the open house is free, but donations are appreciated.

This is the third annual Merrill Artisan Showcase which will be held in Assisi Hall at Bell Tower Residence on O'Day Street in Merrill. Featured art work will include: quilting, basket weaving, jewelry, stained glass, wood carving, painting, photography and needlework. All artists are from Merrill and the surrounding area and will display their works. Some will demonstrate and sell their creations. A $5 admission will be charged which will include the show, wine and cheese and other refreshments.

This is your opportunity to experience the talents of many of Merrill's creative individuals. Both shows will surprise you with the wealth of talent we have in our community.
