Area scouts helping to feed area families

Posted

Merrill area scouts will be hitting the streets Saturday, April 18, 2026, as part of the national Scouting for Food drive — collecting non-perishable food donations to help fight food insecurity in the local community.
Merrill Cub Scout Pack 503 launched the effort earlier this spring, with scouts fanning out across neighborhoods to hang yellow door hangers on residential doorknobs this past weekend. Saturday is collection day.
Residents who received a door hanger are asked to place non-perishable food items in a grocery bag, staple the yellow door hanger to the outside of the bag so it is visible, and hang the bag on their exterior door handle before 8 a.m. Saturday. Scouts will make their rounds to pick up donations throughout the morning.
If scouts happen to miss a bag, organizers ask that residents drop off their donations at one of the following area food pantries:
• Merrill Community Food Pantry, 503 CTH-K, Suite 3 (behind the hospital)

• Open Hearts Food Pantry at Trinity Lutheran School, 107 N. State St.
• His Hands Extended Food Program at New Testament Church, N2519 Cty. Rd. K

For those who did not receive a door hanger, or who would like to donate ahead of Saturday, collection boxes are available at five area businesses. Donations must be placed in those boxes no later than Friday, April 17, as scouts will be collecting from those locations Saturday as well. Drop-off locations include:
• Park City Credit Union — 501 S. Pine Ridge Ave.
• Weinbrenner Outlet Store — 108 S. Polk St.

• Northwoods Veterans Post — 601 Johnson St.
• Westside Market — 1504 W. Main St.
• County Market — 300 E. First St.

A drive-through drop-off will also be held Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Northwoods Veterans Post, 601 Johnson St., for anyone who prefers to deliver donations in person.
All donations collected through Scouting for Food will go directly to the Merrill Food Pantry.
