Are booster shots needed for your child?

Posted
The school year is now underway and Lincoln County Health Department reminds parents that their child may need required immunizations for the 2010-11 school year.

"Childhood immunization is an important step we can take to make sure our children grow up healthy from the effects of serious, vaccine-preventable diseases," said Katie Baumann, Public Health Nurse, Lincoln County Health Department.

Immunization requirements include a single dose of Tdap [protects against Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (whooping cough)] for children entering grades 6, 9 and 12. A second immunization of Varicella (chickenpox) or history of disease is required for children entering grades 6 and 12. Kindergarten students are required to have booster doses of Varicella, DTaP [Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough)], Polio and MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella).

To receive immunizations, contact your healthcare provider or attend one of the free walk-in immunization clinics held by the Lincoln County Health Department:

Wednesday, September 29, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at the Lincoln County Health Department, 607 N. Sales St., Merrill.

Tuesday, October 5, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Health Department, 607 N. Sales St., Merrill.
