Posted

A Merrill teenager is in critical condition following a Sunday crash on State Highway 64 in Lincoln County.
The 17-year-old woman was driving eastbound near Elm Grove Road in the town of Corning when her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound vehicle, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m.
A medical helicopter transported the 17-year-old to a hospital in Marshfield with critical injuries.
Riding with the teen was her 2-week-old infant son, who escaped the crash unharmed thanks to being properly secured in a car seat.
A Jim Falls couple, a 60-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife, were in the other vehicle. Both were treated for minor injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews from across the area responded to the scene. In addition to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Merrill Police Department, Merrill Fire Department Ambulance, the Corning Fire Department, and Lightning Wrecker Service, along with the medical helicopter crew responded to the scene. The Wisconsin State Patrol is now assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the ongoing investigation.
State Highway 64 was closed from the time of the crash and reopened at 2:38 p.m.
