State Tournament
A number of Merrill wrestlers placed at the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling State Tournament held in Wisconsin Dells at the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center on May 6 and 7, 2023.
Allison Hunter took second place in the Girls Junior 106 Weight Division. Ryder Depies took second place in Greco-Roman and fifth place in the Freestyle 195 lb. Junior Division. Austin Depies placed third in Greco-Roman 170 lb 16U; and Carson Brooks took fourth place in the 182 lbs 16U Greco-Roman Division and Brant Suchocki also took fourth place in the 84 lb Greco-Roman 10U Division.
“We had several Merrill wrestlers compete at the tournament in both styles,” said Merrill Head Wrestling Coach Brian Suchocki. “The wrestlers trained hard, and it was a great experience for all to experience this high level of wrestling.”

Northern Plains Tournament
Merrill wrestlers also traveled back to the Woodside Wisconsin Dells Center for the Northern Plains Wrestling Tournament on May 13 and 14 for Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling.
“This tournament includes the best wrestlers from the north central states,” Suchocki said.
Austin Depies, Remington Skic, Allison Hunter, and Ryder Depies all competed. Allison Hunter took second place in Greco and fifth place in Freestyle. Ryder Depies took home a second place in both styles of wrestling.
“The top four qualify automatically for the National Tournament in Fargo,” Suchocki said. “All wrestlers have more opportunities to qualify to wrestle in Fargo.”
“The wrestlers that competed at this tournament are challenging themselves at a very high level,” he said.
