Ronald E. Spears died peacefully with his family by his side on February 8, 2023. Ron loved children. He never missed his grandchildren’s school activities and was known to all as “Papa Ron.” He was an avid woodworker and always had a joke to share. Ron had a big heart and often joked that he was so good, he got two (after having received a heart transplant in 2000.) Ron was born in 1941 and lived in Merrill his entire life. He tended bar at Club Modern for 39 years and worked at Wire Products and Bell Tower in maintenance. He was also in the Navy.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Earl, and Margaret Spears, two brothers, Robert and Herbert, and son, Todd Spears. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, son Dean (Jean) Spears, daughter Tammy (Trevor) LaRene, and grandchildren Bennett and Ethan (Rebecca) LaRene and Tasha and Todd Spears.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aspirus Hospital, Edgewater Haven, and Promedica Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart Association or in support of organ donation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
