The Merrill Bluejay Trap Team wrapped up their regular season matches last Tuesday, May 24, with a win against the Wausau Skeet & Trap Team at all levels. At the Varsity level, the score was Merrill 117 – Wausau 106.
“Merrill represented well this season, although our season started slow and took our athletes a bit to get back in the groove,” Bluejay Trap Coaches said. “We also had very poor weather conditions the first couple of weeks.”
After Week 9 scores were totaled, three Varsity shooters had shot their way into the Conference Top 5: “Bobby Hoff tied again and ultimately lost the first place spot to a reverse run,” Coaches said. “Tough way to lose.” Hoff had battled for the last three weeks against a shooter from Lakeland, with tied scores for each of those weeks. Bobby wraps up the regular season in second place in the Conference.
“Females Lydia Ashbrenner and Cali Brown took fourth and fifth places in the Conference for Varsity Females, only one bird separating the two,” Coaches said.

Beyond Varsity
Beyond Varsity, all three of Merrill’s other divisions [JV, Intermediate Advanced (IA), and Intermediate Entry (IE)] also earned wins in Week 9 of scoring and ended the regular season with Merrill shooters on the leader boards at the Conference level.
In JV, Merrill’s Lacey Frisch ended the regular season in first place for female shooters in the Conference, and Gracie Such took third place for JV female shooters.
In IA, Christopher Holz held his own and wrapped up the regular season in first place in the Conference for IA (both male and female), and he again shot a perfect score of 25 in Week 9 competition for the Bluejays. Merrill’s Alex Petrowski maintained his spot and took fifth place in the Conference for IA. Maria Ashbrenner is the high Merrill scorer for the ladies in the IA division, upping her game to take first place for female shooters in the Conference in the division.
At the IE level, Merrill’s Hunter Renken moved up in Week 9 to take third place for the Conference, and Mason Meyer shot his first 25, making it a great way to end the regular season.
