The driver of the vehicle that crashed into a parked truck the evening of Friday, Nov. 19, was incorrectly identified by witnesses at the scene as William Haight of Merrill. Haight was NOT the driver of the white Chevrolet Trailblazer that crashed in the 600 block of Prospect St. as reported in the Nov. 25 print edition of the Foto News. We apologize to Mr. Haight for this error.
The Merrill Police Department has identified and confirmed Eric Welch was the driver who crashed his white Chevrolet Trailblazer into a parked truck late the evening of Nov. 19, 2021.
Welch was taken into custody that evening by Merrill Police Officers after he failed on-site sobriety tests following the crash. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated (third offense) and cited for operating with a suspended driver’s license and lack of motor vehicle insurance.
