Local talent needed

TINA L. SCOTT
EDITOR

The Merrill Community Theater is holding auditions seeking local talent for a performance of Joe dePietro’s Over the River and Through the Woods. Auditions will be held Saturday, June 5, and Sunday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. on both dates at Christ United Methodist Church, 300 N. Mill St. in Merrill.
A total of six actors/actresses are needed: three men and three women. Of these, one male and one female should look approximately age 29, and two males and two females are needed to play grandparents. Auditions will include readings from the script, (available at the Theater group’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2421716501394415/files) as follows: Nick p. 5 monologue; Frank p. 5-6 monologue; Emma p. 36 monologue; Frank p.38-39 monologue; Nunzio p.39 monologue; Aida p.48 monologue; Nick p.37 monologue; Nick p.49 monologue; and Scenes: p.30-35 Nick, Aida, Nunzio, Emma, Frank; p.25-27 Nick, Caitlin; and p.8-15 Nick, Aida, Emma, Frank, Nunzio.
Nick’s character is an established, bright, witty 29 years young Italian man with two sets of grandparents. He is content, but lonely at times.
“This is an hilarious play about an Italian family in Hoboken, New Jersey. Sweet, funny, very touching,” the announcement describes, and is a great opportunity for area actors and performers, the announcement continued.
Larry Kirchgaessner will be the Director, and he is pleased the show will go on. “We were planning to do this show much earlier, before the pandemic,” he said. Now the Merrill Community Theater will move forward as originally planned, except they are planning to stage the show outdoors due to COVID concerns.
Show dates will be August 7 and 8, 2021, with three performances to be held at The Sawmill Brewery in Merrill.
