Merrill Police Department reports

10-05-2020
At 9:12am a male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
At 12:29pm a caller reported a political sign was stolen from his yard sometime overnight.
At 1:21pm a student was found to be in possession of various items, including prescription medication, that he had stolen from family members. The youth will be referred to Social Services.
At 3:09pm a business reported a suspicious vehicle parked in their parking lot. The vehicle was located leaving the lot upon officer’s arrival. The vehicle was stopped for equipment violations. The driver was found to have an open bond in which he is prohibited from having contact with the passenger in the vehicle. He was arrested for bail jumping and cited for operating after revocation.

10-06-2020
At 3:57 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation. The driver was found to have warrants for his arrest through Marathon County and Lincoln County. It was further found he had a revoked driver’s license with two open bonds, one of which prohibited the man from operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The man was arrested for the warrants and bail jumping.
At 10:41 p.m. an officer conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The officer could smell marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. The driver admitted to possessing a marijuana pipe. The pipe was located and the driver cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally a bag containing golf balls was located that had been reported stolen earlier in the day from a business. That case was being investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the balls were turned over to them.
At 11:36 p.m. a tavern reported suspicious activity at their business. It was reported a male was “ripping off” a gambling machine and additionally had an open bond prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Contact was made with the man and the open bond was confirmed. He was arrested for four counts of bail jumping. The man’s wife was also found to have an open bond prohibiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages. She too was arrested for three counts of bail jumping. Her purse was searched following her arrest and a marijuana pipe was located as well as a device concealed in a pack of cigarettes. Officers were able to determine the device was able to manipulate the gambling machines.
A short time later an officer located the couple’s vehicle parked a short distance from the tavern. An officer was able to view a methamphetamine pipe sitting on the dash as well as the vehicle littered with syringes. A search of the vehicle revealed two methamphetamine pipes and two additional marijuana pipes. The female admitted the pipes located were hers and she was charged appropriately.

10-08-2020
At 7:27 a.m. a business reported receiving two counterfeit $20 bills. The person passing the bills was identified and investigation is ongoing.
At 3:57 p.m. a caller reported someone had entered her unlocked vehicle the previous night. The caller has surveillance video and a lone male can be seen entering the vehicle. Nothing was missing from the vehicle.
At 4:21 p.m a bank reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill from a restaurant. The person passing that bill has been identified and investigation is ongoing.
At 4:50 p.m a female turned in a wallet she located at a store. The owner was able to be determined by cards within the wallet. Contact was made with the owner and the wallet was relea.sed to him.
At 8:52 p.m a caller reported the theft of political signs from his yard. The signs were located in the bed of a truck at the property. It was also believed the suspects caused a scratch to a vehicle at the residence. The caller had surveillance video at the property which shows two males remove the signs from his yard. An officer contacted one suspect who lied to the officer claiming he had been at work the previous night. The officer found the male had not been at work as he had been fired the previous week. The man will be charged for obstructing an officer. Additional offenses may be forthcoming.

10-09-2020
At 6:55 p.m an officer responded to a theft complaint where a snow plow pump was taken from the back of a pickup truck. The investigation is ongoing.

10-10-2020
At 2:44 p.m, officers responded to a report of a vehicle which crashed into a parked vehicle in a parking lot. As a result of an investigation, a male was arrested for 3rd offense operating under the influence.

10-11-2020
At 1:11 p.m. officers were dispatched to a suspicious person at a gas station. Upon arrival they located the suspicious female party after she exited a restroom. The female party was said to be acting oddly and possibly on drugs. Officers identified the female party and discovered she had active warrants through a surrounding county. The female was arrested on the warrant. While searching the female party a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine was located on the female’s person. The female was brought to jail on the warrant as well as drug charges.
At 10:39 p.m officers were dispatched to a tavern for a report of a hit and run. It was reported that a female party had left the bar and backed in to another vehicle in the parking lot of the tavern. It was reported that the female party had been drinking. A license plate was gathered prior to the female leaving the bar. Contact was attempted at the female’s residence but officers were unsuccessful in doing so. The investigation is ongoing.
