Planning for What the Future May Bring

MAPS Superintendent Dr. John Sample

Here we are, a month or so into the 2020-2021 school year. It pleases me to see our buildings bustling with students and staff as they have been practically empty since mid-March.
While our current school re-opening plan has been implemented, we also continue to plan for what may happen. It is more important now than ever that we continue to remain as proactive as possible in a highly reactive environment. Proper planning provides students, staff, parents and administrators security as most of us find the unknown an unsettling experience.
We have learned so much since last Spring and this knowledge is reflected in our planning in the event of a building or district-wide shutdown in the future. Teachers and administrators have worked very hard to maximize the instruction experience for each student in the event we must return to virtual instruction for a period of time.
Please take a moment to review our plans on our website in the event of a school or district-wide shutdown. Plans are available for Pine River School for Young Learners, each of our elementary buildings, Prairie River Middle School and Merrill High School.
October Recognition
Not only is October a beautiful time of year for our area, it is also a busy calendar month. October is National Bullying Prevention Month and National Principals Month. Please don’t forget that October 2 is our Merrill School Improvement (MSI) Day so there will be no school for students as our teachers and administrators dive into student achievement data. October 4-10 is recognized as the Wisconsin School Board Appreciation Week so don’t forget to thank our Board Members for their tireless dedication to our district! Speaking of the MAPS Board of Education, please join me in welcoming Kendra Osness to the Board as our newest member!
MAPS appreciates the partnership we have with our community as we all work to keep our students and each other safe!

Proud Superintendent
