35th Assembly District candidate Calvin Callahan claimed a landslide victory over fellow challenger Don Nelson last week, in the Tuesday, Aug. 11 Partisan Primary Election. Callahan tallied 2,469 votes (73.16% overall) while Nelson drew 905 votes (26.81 overall).
Of 22,441 registered voters in Lincoln County, 5,599 turned out to cast their vote last week; resulting in just under a 25% overall voter turnout. 3,513 voters claimed Republican Party preference while 1,895 claimed Democratic preference.
Callahan will now face Democratic candidate Tyler Ruprecht of Merrill, in the Nov. 3 General Election.
Following his victory last week, Callahan released the following statement; “I want to thank my supporters, my campaign volunteers and the voters of the 35th District who cast their ballots for me. I have met so many wonderful people in the 35th District since I declared my candidacy. I love this district and the people who live here.
“I want to thank Don Nelson too. Both our campaigns focused on the issues and why voters should vote for one of us. We ran no negative ads; we kept this a clean campaign as primaries should be. Republican primary candidates who run attack ads against their Republican opponents only get Democrats elected in November. We did not do that,” he added.
“We need to keep the 35th District in Republican hands, we need to get Mary Felzkowski elected as State Senator, we need to get Tom Tiffany re-elected. Most importantly of all we need to win this state for President Trump by a margin so large the Democrats won’t even think about asking for a recount.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. May God bless all of you.”
