Identity of fatal drowning victim released

Sunday afternoon, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim of a fatal drowning incident occurring early Saturday morning, as 18-year old Andrew J. Adams of Champaign, IL.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a call of a boater who was missing from a capsized canoe on Lake Alice. Dive teams from the Lincoln and Oneida County Sheriff’s Offices as well as that of the Tomahawk Fire Department were able to locate Adams at approximately 8:30 a.m. He was found to have succumbed to drowning and was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul C. Proulx.

At this time, the investigation shows the incident was an accidental drowning. No other contributing factors are known at this time. Agencies assisting at the scene included; the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Tomahawk Fire Deparment, Tomahawk EMS, Newbold Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
