Novitch named March MHS Youth Optimist of the Month

The March Youth Optimist is Caleb Novitch, who was nominated by Mr. Josh Olson. Mr. Olson comments, “Caleb has been a positive spirit in my classes since his freshman year. He always approaches challenges with an attitude to trying instead of giving up, and that rubs off on everyone around him during class. Through Vocal Jayz, Caleb has made a positive impact on the community over the course of the last few years by spreading joy through music at various performances. Caleb never misses an opportunity to stop and say ‘hello’ or just let you know how he is doing or ask about your day. His positive attitude really creates a warm environment in the choir room, and I owe part of that to the years he has been involved in those organizations,” Olson states.
Mr. Olson also states, “It’s rare that you interact with a student who genuinely cares about the well-being of others to the extent Caleb does. He will always lend a hand and help when called upon. If I need someone I trust to lead an activity, I will choose Caleb because of his natural ability to lead and how trustworthy he is. Caleb truly is a special person and student who fully deserves this award”.
Caleb is active in Vocal Jayz, Concert Choir (Merrill High School Choir Student of the month), Earth Club, NHS (Vice President), Boys Soccer (Captain and received Grit award), Football, Link Crew, Bluejay Beat, Ski Team Captain, and Musical.
Outside of school Caleb is active with Wausau Nordic United Ski Team, Vacation Bible School, Alaska Summer Work Project, Lifeguard/WSI Instructor, and Neighbor Lawn Mowing.
After high school graduation, Caleb plans to pursue a career in Civil Engineering at a four year university. He is the son of Dan and Kristen Novitch.
