Merrill Police Department reports

April 27
At 2:16 p.m., a caller reported she had video showing someone stealing a package from her porch as well as a pack of alcoholic beverages. A 15-year old suspect was identified and his father located the alcoholic beverages in his son’s bedroom. The officer spoke to the youth later and determined the package, which contained a pair of child’s shoes, was thrown into the Wisconsin River near the Riverbend Trail. Also another youth was identified as being involved. One youth was referred for theft as a party to the crime, the other for theft and both were cited for underage alcohol violation.

April 28
At 9:35 a.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint. The caller advised someone had went into a business dumpster and stole scrap metal. The investigation is ongoing.

April 29
At 7:16 p.m., an officer investigated a report of a hit & run which involved an unknown vehicle striking an unoccupied car in the parking lot of a business.

April 30
At 4:40 p.m., an officer investigated a report of a male party that was bitten by a dog while jogging near the intersection of 3rd St. and Logan St. The male party explained that the dog was on a leash and monitored by several children. The dog growled at him as he passed and then bit him in the right leg causing a puncture wound. The male party reported the incident after returning home. Officers checked the area of the incident but were unable to locate the dog or owners. Witnesses stated that the dog did not live in the area but was a German Shepard breed and was being walked by several children.

May 1
At 9:39 a.m., a male party called in a theft but advised he could not meet with officers until later in the day. At 3:30 p.m., an officer met with the male party who advised he had 4 diesel fuel cans stolen off of his property. The investigation is ongoing.

At 2:26 p.m., officers responded to the office of Probation and Parole to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. The male was transported to the jail.

At 4:04 p.m., an officer responded to a vandalism complaint. The caller advised they believed someone had put maple syrup into their gas tank. The investigation is ongoing.

At 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a neighbor complaint. The caller advised their upstairs neighbor cut their internet cable out of the box. The investigation is ongoing.

May 2
At 3:07 p.m., an officer responded to a theft complaint. The male party had his bicycle stolen from a bicycle rack. The investigation is ongoing.

May 3
Officers had contact with a business that was open in violation of the current public health order. Contact was made with the owner/licensee on three separate dates this weekend and readily apparent violations were present on all occasions. All interactions indicated a willful violation of the current public health order. A report and criminal complaint will be forwarded to the Lincoln County District Attorney for charges.
