Roger Young, 85, of Merrill, formerly of the Town of Rock Falls, Lincoln County, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Roger was born January 31, 1934, in Cook County, Illinois, son of the late Elmer and Helen (Bohman) Young. He married Margie Mae Pophal and she preceded him in death on May 4, 2015. Roger had worked at John Strange Paper Company in Neenah and Anson-Gilkey in Merrill. He also worked as a crossing guard. In his younger years, Roger enjoyed riding motorcycles and repairing bicycles for little kids.
Roger is survived by his brothers, Ronald (Ruth) Young of Tomahawk and Elroy ‘Bimbo’ (Wendy) Wiesman of Merrill; sister-in-law, Beverly Kleist of Merrill and Trude Pophal of Merrill; step sister-in-law, Joni Nielsen of Lomira; brothers-in-law, Carl (Audrey) Pophal, Jr. of Merrill and Paul Mussell of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Mae Young; parents, Elmer and Helen Young; step father, LeRoy Wiesman; step brother, Peter Nielsen; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mussell, Judy (David, Sr.) Kleinschmidt, Betty Jane (Lawrence ‘Shorty’) Knoll, Nancy Pophal, Jean Ann Wojcik and Trude Pophal; and brothers-in-law, George Kleist, David Pophal and Robert Pophal.
A memorial service for Roger will be held at 12:00 P.M., Noon, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.taylorstinefuneralhome.com
