Merrill Area Public Schools student Skylar Herdt has received the Wisconsin NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. In addition, Merrill Area Public Schools educator Olivia Dachel has received the NCWIT-WI Educator Award.
Both of these awards are sponsored by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), recognizing high school students and educators for their computing-related achievements and interests, as part of an effort to encourage more young women to choose careers in technology.
A total of 102 award recipients were selected from high schools across Wisconsin for their outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology and computing, solid leadership ability, and academic knowledge
Merrill Area Public Schools continues to offer computing as part of its curriculum, recognizing its value to students’ future success.
“The District is extremely proud of the fact that both a student and educator were recipients of such prestigious awards,” stated Keshia Mashak, MAPS Director of Technology Integration. “Both Skylar and Olivia have proven to go above and beyond in the classroom and serve as great leaders at MAPS. Without the support of Mrs. Dachel, these unique opportunities would not be made possible to MAPS students, and we wish Skylar nothing but the best as she continues her pursuits in computer programming.”
