Merrill Police Department Reports

July 1
At 5:19 a.m, officers responded to a report of a bat loose in the caller’s bedroom. The bat was located by officers and was captured and released in a rural location.

At 11:43 a.m, an officer responded to an area gas station for a report of a male party allegedly using drugs in the bathroom. The officer made contact with staff and was informed that a customer had gone to use the bathroom and upon opening the door discovered a male party fully clothed seated facing the back of the toilet. The male party left the store after being discovered. Within the bathroom the officer located a white powdery substance on the back of the toilet which tested positive for cocaine and a large amount of various blood soiled items in the bathroom garbage along with blood stains on the sink. The investigation continues.

At 7:51 p.m, an officer responded to the River Bend trail Pavilion for a report of vandalism to the vending machine, electrical box cover, electrical outlet cover and the building itself. All damage appeared to be done with a sharpie pen and had the words “Wraith XIX” were used. Officers are increasing patrol in the area to address the on going issues of vandalism.

July 3
At 3:52 a.m, officers responded to a stolen vehicle complaint. The caller advised their vehicle was missing from their driveway. The vehicle was located in the area and when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled. The vehicle then turned off its headlights and stopped and two people fled from the vehicle and they were located and detained. The juvenile suspects are being referred to Social Services.

At 3:49 p.m, officers responded to a two vehicle crash. One vehicle had failed to stop at a stop sign and struck another vehicle. The driver was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.

At 6:19 p.m, an officer responded to a theft complaint. The caller had a table, 2 chairs and a plant stolen. Investigation is ongoing.

At 9:13 p.m, officers responded to a domestic incident. The caller stated her soon to be ex-husband had kicked in her door, took their son, and left from the residence. The male party is being charged with domestic disorderly.

July 4
At 12:40 a.m, an officer was dispatched to a suspicious person complaint. The caller stated a male party was laying in her front yard and he had taken part of a fire hydrant apart and threw it into the roadway. Upon arrival the male party was sitting in a vehicle in the yard that belonged to the caller. The male was found to be intoxicated and had urinated himself. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and a probation violation.

At 7:36 p.m, an officer investigated a traffic crash. It was determined that a male driver crashed a vehicle into a parked vehicle because he was distracted by his cell phone. The crash resulted
in minor injuries to a passenger and the male driver was cited for inattentive driving.
