Lincoln County Sheriff Reports

A 30-year old Merrill man was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of bail jumping. Deputies went to a home off of Pope Rd. in the Town of Merrill at 9:45 p.m. for a welfare check. Upon arrival they found the suspect and discovered he had been drinking in violation of two bail bonds in Lincoln County Court.

Sheriff Schneider and his deputies along with Tomahawk firefighters and paramedics searched the Wisconsin River on Wednesday evening after it was reported three parties on a rafting trip had gone missing. Searchers checked an area of the Wisconsin River north of County Rd A, after the call was received at 4:35 p.m. About an hour into the search a deputy found two of the parties off of Gas Line Rd while the Tomahawk Fire Chief found the third a short time later. None of the parties were injured but had just become separated after going through rapids.

A 17-year old Rhinelander woman was arrested Wednesday evening after deputies investigated a disturbance in the Town of Harrison. The woman had left the residence prior to the arrival of law enforcement but was taken into custody by the Rhinelander Police Department and brought to the county line. The woman was charged with disorderly conduct and battery.

A 23-year old Merrill man was arrested Wednesday evening after deputies responded to a disturbance in the Town of Merrill. Deputies went to an establishment after receiving a report of a fight. The man was arrested on charges of battery and disorderly conduct.

A 17-year old Appleton man was arrested Saturday afternoon on a burglary charge. A homeowner in the town of Bradley reported entry was made to their home and items were stolen. Later that afternoon the property owner relayed information which led to the suspect. The man admitted to the thefts when interviewed. He was charged with burglary and felony theft, he remains in the Lincoln County Jail.

Two Merrill residents were injured on Saturday afternoon after striking a deer with a motorcycle in the Town of Pine River. The pair was traveling north on County Rd X south of State Rd 64 when the crash occurred. The couple, a 59-year old Merrill man and a 58-year old Merrill woman were both transported by Merrill EMS to Ascension Good Samaritan Health Center after the crash. The Pine River Fire Department and First Responders assisted on the scene.

One person received injuries after a two vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in the Town of Bradley. Deputies, Troopers and Tomahawk Fire and EMS responded to US Hwy 8 east of US Hwy 51 after the crash was reported at 1:19 p.m. According to the deputies report a west bound truck tried to avoid traffic that was backing up but when he hit his brakes he lost control and struck an east bound vehicle. A passenger in that vehicle, a 79-year old Minnesota woman was treated and released on the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a Michigan man will be cited.

A female was injured Sunday evening after an ATV crash in the Town of Birch. The 24-year old Kronenwetter woman was riding about a mile off of Turtle Lake Rd. when she rolled her machine. The victim was removed from woods and brought to an area where the Spirit 2 medical helicopter was waiting. The Town of Russell Fire Department and First Responders assisted. The Rec. Deputy advised that speed was a factor in the crash and the machine rolled on top of the driver.

Deputies assisted as an elderly male was injured after falling 16 feet from a tree stand Sunday evening. The incident occurred in the woods off of County Rd K in the Town of Birch. The victim was removed from the woods by paramedics from the Merrill Fire Department and brought out to County Rd K where deputies had closed County Rd K for the Medevac helicopter. The man was flown to the trauma center. County Rd K was closed for just short of an hour.

The amount of deer crashes has increased again to 14 this past week. An Edgar man struck a bear on County Rd K in the Town of Merrill Wednesday afternoon. The crash was reported at Spruce Rd just after 11:00 a.m., the animal had to be put down. On Wednesday evening two men struck a bear on US Hwy 8 at Martin Drive outside Tripoli in the Town of Somo. The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. when a vehicle struck the animal causing it to go into the other lane and be struck by a second vehicle. Neither of the drivers were injured but both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. That bear’s estimated weight was 500 pounds.
